This is a model of the Sir Winston Churchill built in a bottle. The actual ship is a 3-masted schooner, designed by Camper and Nicholson and built by Richard Dunston Ltd in Hessle, Yorkshire in 1966. She was originally built to respond to the challenge of competing in a Tall Ships race, at a time where no other English vessel existed to enter the race. Under the patronage of the Duke of Edinburgh and with funds of public support, The Sir Winston Churchill was launched in 1996 and used under the management of the Sail Training Association for sail training. She participated in races worldwide and won many awards.
This model is highly detailed and very well built. It has a black hull and the name of the ship on the bow. The deck if full of very finely made details including cabins and lifeboat. There are 10 sails flying on three masts. The flag of England is mounted to the stern of the ship. The stand is hand made and has a plaque with the name "Sir Winston Churchill mounted on the side of the plinth. On one end of the stand is a plaque with 1966, the year the original ship was built, and on the other side is "Hand Made by B Stratton 2009."
